A magical evening awaits local daughters and fathers early next month, as the Young Professionals of Greater Dowagiac hosts its second annual Daddy-Daughter Snowball Feb. 6.

Once again offered in conjunction with the Dowagiac Ice Time Festival, this year’s dance event takes place from 4 to 6 p.m. at Dowagiac Middle School. Tickets for the event are currently on sale for $5 per person, available for purchase at Fifth Third Bank, Bakeman Barbers and The Baker’s Rhapsody.

Started last year by the local service organization, the Daddy-Daughter dance gave fathers a chance to spend a special evening out with their daughters after spending the day out on the town during the ice festival, said Rebecca Kellogg, a member of the Young Professionals and organizer for the dance. Like last year, proceeds from the dance will go toward funding the organization’s Fourth of July fireworks show.

Tickets for this year’s dance went on sale earlier this month, sold alongside tickets for the upcoming Miss Dowagiac Pageant at Caruso’s Candy & Soda Shop.

“The court had such a good time at the dance last year, and they wanted to participate again this year, so we thought it would we put it all together this year,” Kellogg said.

Miss Dowagiac and her court won’t be the only royal visitors lined up for that evening. In line with the dance’s Cinderella theme, an actress with Michiana Princess will portray the popular Disney character during the dance, meeting and entertaining young visitors, Kellogg said.

In addition, there will be a coloring station for children who want a break from dancing, and a photo booth for parents and children operated by Kellogg, a professional photographer.

Besides offering admission to the building, tickets will also allow attendees to enjoy discounts and deals with several local businesses, including The Mane Attraction, Booth’s Country Florist, Zeke’s Restaurant, The Hairitage, Bakeman Barbers, The Scissor Mill Salon & Day Spa and Spa-toe-pia. The offers are designed to not only help attendees prepare for their special night out, but to help drive sales during a crucial day for the downtown, Kellogg said.

“Everyone in our group really enjoy living here, and one of the best things we can do to maintain the town we all love is support our local businesses,” Kellogg said.

With around 400 people attending the event last year, organizers are hoping for a similarly impressive turnout for the event’s sophomore outing, Kellogg said.

“It’s a really great event, and fathers are sure to have a super great time with their daughters,” she said.
