It was not always pretty, but the Brandywine boys basketball team equaled the school’s best start to a season with its seventh straight victory Friday night.

Head coach Nathan Knapp saw it coming as the Bobcats did not practice well in preparation for Friday night’s BCS Athletic Conference Red Division game with Parchment.

But despite the inconsistent performance, Brandywine earned a 47-34 victory over the Panthers to improve to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the Red Division.

“The kids have to realize that we have to come to play every night,” Knapp said. “When you’re 7-0, you have a target on your back and you have to come to play and bring you’re ‘A’ game.”

Brandywine won the game in the second quarter thanks to a spark off the bench from Brady Duval.

Leading just 12-10 heading into the second quarter, Knapp inserted Duval into the game. After Parchment tied the game at 12-12, Duval connected on a 3-pointer to give the Bobcats the lead for good.

The junior made four straight shots and scored 11 points in the quarter as Brandywine opened up a 27-17 halftime advantage.

Neither team could find the basket in the third quarter as they combined for just nine points.

As a result, the Bobcats led 32-21 heading into the final quarter.

Brandywine held a 15-13 scoring advantage in the final eight minutes to earn the victory.

Duval finished the game with 12 points to lead the Bobcats, who also got 10 points each from Austin Knapp and Vinny Peel.

Parchment’s Luke Dexter led all scorers with 13 points.
