YMCA programs offer something for everyone

The Niles-Buchanan YMCA is giving the community a number of ways to get healthy in 2016 with a variety of programs and events.

Below is a list of activities the YMCA is offering this month:

• Taekwondo — This energetic class focuses on discipline, self-confidence, self-control and respect with a strong emphasis on being a good student in school.

• Swimming — Swim instruction classes at the Y teach swimming while building skills and confidence. Private and progressive lessons are available.

• Just for You — This program is designed for individuals with special needs. Participants experience dance in a fun and safe environment.

• Learning Tree Preschool — This program is designed to start building the foundation of young children’s future. Register them now to be a part of something bigger by signing them up for the 2016-2017 school year.

• Youth basketball clinics — Check out a clinic hosted by the YMCA and Niles High School. The focus will be on building core skills such as ball handling, defense, offense, rebounding, shooting, conditioning, team work and more. Clinics are scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 23 and 30 and will be held at the Niles High School.

• Youth basketball registration — Focus on building life skills as well as teaching the fundamentals of basketball. Registration closes on Jan. 11. Games begin Feb. 6.

• Kids Night Out — Niles-Buchanan YMCA will offer Saturday Kids Night Out on Jan. 9. Children will enjoy a safe, fun-filled evening of themed activities, which will include swimming, pizza, games and crafts. Parents can enjoy their night out, knowing their child is having a blast.

• CPR, AED & first aid certification — Get trained and certified through the American Red Cross Class Jan. 23.

• Lifeguard class — Learn how to become a lifeguard. Learn to maintain a comfortable and safe environment, prevent accidents and how to respond to emergencies in and around water. Pre-course session is Tuesday, Jan. 26. Class sessions will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from Jan. 28 through Feb. 25.

• Tri/Master swim class — Looking to shave time off your race or develop a better your stroke technique? This is the class for you. Registration is now open.

• Adult volleyball league — Looking for some friendly competition in a team environment? Sign up now for a mid-level recreation or competitive volleyball League. Games are Tuesdays and Thursdays.

• Piloxing master class — Change your workout. Join the Y for a non-stop, cardio fusion of standing Pilates, boxing and dance. This class will push you past your limit. The class is open to members and non-members for $5 at 5 p.m. Jan. 24.

• Zumba bash — Get your workout on at the Party! It’s our first Zumba Bash of 2016. It is from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 30. Cost is $10 for members and non-members at the door.
