A Hartford woman was hospitalized early Thursday morning, after her vehicle was struck in a head-on crash in Silver Creek Township, according to a release from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

According to police, deputies with the department were dispatched to a reported accident on Middle Crossing Street near California Road around 7:11 a.m. The crash occurred when an eastbound vehicle driven by 17-year-old Anne Zebell lost control after hitting a patch of ice, going across the center line and hitting a vehicle driven by 54-year-old Janice Murphy.

Murphy sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash, and was transported by Pride Care Ambulance to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Police stated that alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Air bags were deployed in both vehicles, and safety belts were used by both drivers. The crash remains under investigation.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Sister Lakes Fire Department and Pride Care Ambulance Service.
