A Sister Lakes woman was found dead Saturday morning after being crushed by a vehicle that had slid down her driveway, according to officers with the Michigan State Police Department.

Barbara Pohrebny, 64, of Dowagiac, was declared dead by first responders arriving at the scene of the accident, her lakeside home on County Road 690.

Pohrebny’s body was found trapped underneath her vehicle, a 2011 Chevy Equinox, which police believe had slipped down the sloped driveway of the residence.

State police were dispatched to the scene around 11:50 a.m. that day, after receiving a call from a man who discovered the woman’s body moments earlier.

This person was someone that Pohrebny had contacted earlier to salt her driveway, police say.

The vehicle’s slippage was result of the ice that had built up on the pathway, caused by the snow and freezing experienced in the area the last few days. The resident had apparently been concerned about state of her driveway prior to the accident, police say.

Though authorities have yet to determine an official time of death, she had been dead for sometime before troopers discovered her corpse.

While there are no signs of foul play involved in the incident, police are continuing their investigation.
