Kathleen L Whitmer, 86, of New Carlisle, Indiana, passed away peacefully, Dec. 27, 2015, in her residence in the presence of her family. She was formerly a longtime resident of Galien, Michigan.

Kathleen was born August 26, 1929 in South Bend, Indiana, the daughter of M. J. and Mable (Straub) Frame. She married Charles Whitmer on Feb. 12, 1949. Her parents and Charles preceded her in death.

Kathleen was an excellent quilter and seamstress. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Kathleen made and sent many sweaters and newborn caps to babies around the world. She was an avid reader and stamp collector. Kathleen was known for her gardening, especially her peonies and hepaticas. She was an active member of Olive Branch United Methodist Church, and a volunteer with the Galien Historical Society. She enjoyed playing euchre with both friends and family. She had a keen interest in genealogy and was good at staying in touch with extended family as well as her friends. Kathleen dearly loved her family. She will be greatly missed by all.

Kathleen is survived by her children: Kathy Lynn Holderread of Sawyer, Michigan, J. A. (John S Frizzo) Whitmer of Elkhart, Indiana, Crystal Marie (John) Dalrymple of Niles, Michigan, Jessica Mae (Donald) Koziel of Greentown, Indiana, and Charles Inman Whitmer II of Chicago, Illinois; her grandchildren: Jason (Nicki) Holderread, Kerry (Kerry Ann) Holderread, Tina (Michael) Prout, Jacinda (Todd) Edman, Steven Frizzo, Nathaniel (Laura) Frizzo, Carolee Dalrymple, Julia (Chad) Nielsen, Nicholas (Alasha) Koziel, and Jillian Koziel; her great-grandchildren: Trica, Robert, Sean, Colleen, Emerson, Clayton, Colton, Cooper, Caden, Cobin, Payton, Amelia, Maddalyn, and Isaac; her great-great-grandchild William; her sisters: Lois Grier of Fulton, New York, and Mary Jane Gnodtke of Sawyer, Michigan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Family and friends will gather Tuesday, December 29, 2015 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Pobocik Wagner Family Funerals, 106 Ash Street East, Three Oaks, Michigan 49128. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at 11 a..m. at Olive Branch United Methodist Church, 2289 Olive Branch Road, Galien, Michigan 49113.

The Reverend Jeffrey Cummings will be officiating.

The family prefers memorial contributions be made in Kathleen’s memory to Olive Branch United Methodist Church, 2289 Olive Branch Road, Galien, Michigan 49113.
