Bessie Brock, 76, of Sister Lakes, died on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, at A Place Called Home adult living facility, Dowagiac, after a short battle with cancer.

Per Bessie’s wishes, cremation has already taken place. A Memorial Service will be celebrated at the Sister Lakes Community Church with Pastor Scott Stambaugh at a later date. Bessie’s life began in Wooton, KY on May 17, 1939. She was one of four children born to Albert and Maxine (Howard) Davidson. She was united in marriage to Emmett Brock on Nov. 21, 1955 in Berea, Kentucky. They lived in Kentucky for 10-plus years before moving to Michigan, where they spent 52 wonderful years together until the death of her husband in 2007. Bessie worked a short time for Burnett Foods in Keeler, then Gard’s Pharmacy as a cook/waitress where she met many of her life-long friends. She then began working for Myers Grocery at Sister Lakes where she spent over 20 years as office manager and cashier. She loved her family and enjoyed her grandkids dearly. She was a “mom” to all the neighborhood children and loved giving of her time to others. Bessie enjoyed working in her garden and canning vegetables. She also enjoyed baking, especially cookies. Bessie was a member of the Sister Lakes Lady Lions and enjoyed helping with Lions Club functions.

Bessie will be remembered for her vegetable and flower garden, her kindness in giving to others and the Pace Organization, where she made many new friends and enjoyed her time raising flowers, butterflies, and creating beautiful pieces of artwork.

Bessie is survived by her two children; Patricia (John) Kauffman of Morrilton, Arkansas, and Scott (Denise) Brock of Sister Lakes, her five grandchildren: Shawn Kauffman, Conway, Arkansas, John M. (Jennifer) Kauffman of Germantown, Tennessee, Patrick Kauffman of Morrilton, Arkansas, Brandon Brock and Brittany (Charles) Shreve of Sister Lakes and three great-grandchildren, Hayden and Eli Kauffman and Charles Shreve, III. She also leaves behind two sisters, Ethel Davidson of Richmond, Kentucky and Jaunita (Jim) Egalite of Lexington, Kentucky. Bessie is preceded in death by her brother Albert Davidson, Jr. and her parents.
