Dowagiac offensive woes continue

If the Dowagiac girls basketball team is going to win a game this season it is going to have to figure out how to score.

The Chieftains were held to 19 points by visiting Sturgis in a 64-19 Wolverine Conference victory for the Trojans Thursday night.

Sturgis (3-1, 1-0 Wolverine) had 19 points after one quarter, while holding Dowagiac to four points. The Trojans hit three consecutive 3-pointers to open up the game and never looked back.

Sturgis lead 11-0 before Chieftain freshman Amiyah Smith scored late in the first quarter.

The Trojans led 35-11 at halftime and 53-16 heading into the fourth quarter.

Nico Nelson led all scorers with 16 points for Sturgis. Kayla Thornton, who had a pair of 3-pointers, finished with a 15 points. Harmony Groves added 10 points.

Taylor Hulett led Dowagiac with eight points. Smith finished with 5.
