Athlete Showcase: Dowagiac’s Scotty Hassle

Scotty Hassle is a senior on the Dowagiac wrestling team.

 

What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?

SH: Going to the state finals for wrestling.

What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?

SH: Not working harder in the offseason.

What has been a hardship in your life?

SH: A hardship in my life would be finding time for myself.

Who is a “hero” in your life and why?

SH: My dad is my hero, because he is always there pushing me and cheering for me.

When are you the most nervous while you are competing?

SH: When I first get on the mat right before I shake my opponent’s hand.

Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

SH: There was once that I tripped walking onto the mat.

How do you tend to workout/train when by yourself?

SH: I don’t do very much training on my own other than once or twice a month.

What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?

SH: If I didn’t wrestle I would probably be getting ready for football.

Who would you say is your “biggest fan?” Why?

SH: My mom, because out of everyone in the stands, I can always hear her.

How would you give away $50,000?

SH: I would donate it to the American Cancer Society and St. Jude.

If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?

SH: I would want to coach the Spartans.

If I did not play sports, I would…?

SH: Work a lot more and study more as well.

What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

The conditioning gets pretty difficult.

If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?

SH: Not being able to lock hands.

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

SH: My dad saying how proud he was and shaking my hand.

What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?

SH: I was pretty scared when I wrestled a four-time state champ. I’m glad I did it, but disappointed I didn’t do better.

What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?

SH: I watched a guy beat someone in the last round of the state championship 30-15.

What is your favorite hobby? Why?

SH: Hunting, because I love being in the outdoors.
