SMC Brass Band in Stevensville Dec. 13

Southwestern Michigan College Brass Band presents its annual holiday concert at Stevensville United Methodist Church on Sunday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

The church is located at 5506 Ridge Road in Stevensville.

Selections include “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” Leroy Anderson’s “A Christmas Festival,” “Christmas Calypso,” based on a Caribbean carol, a swing arrangement of selections from Tchaikovsky’s ballet The Nutcracker called “The Nutcracker Sweet” and “We Wish You A Merry Christmas.”

Brass Band was founded in January 1992 by current director Dr. Jonathan Korzun, Director of Bands at SMC.

Its mission is to support performing arts at Southwestern Michigan College throughout the SMC community.

It is composed of area band directors, community members and SMC students.

The British-style ensemble is modeled after brass bands popular throughout Europe.

Brass Band is one of three bands at SMC.

Symphonic Band and Jazz Ensemble are student groups that meet each fall and spring semester.

Brass Band rehearses Wednesday nights on the Dowagiac campus for a season that runs September through June.
