Athlete Showcase: Dowagiac’s Amiyah Smith

Amiyah Smith is a freshman on the Dowagiac girls basketball team.

 

What has been one of your greatest

accomplishments as an athlete?

AS: Winning two tournaments in a row in

volleyball.

What has been one of your biggest

disappointments as an athlete?

AS: Not having everybody come to win.

Who is a “hero” in your life and why?

AS: My parents, because they support me in everything I do.

When are you the most nervous while you are competing?

AS: During a jump ball.

Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

AS: Scoring in the wrong basket.

How do you tend to workout/train when by

yourself?

AS: Weight room.

What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?

AS: Softball.

How would you give away $50,000?

AS: Charity

If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?

AS: Michigan softball

If I did not play sports, I would…?

AS: Keep focusing on school.

What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

AS: Staying disciplined to the plays.

If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?

AS: Being able to foul more, like seven fouls is good.

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

AS: That being an athlete will give me a great future.

What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?

AS: Moving to Dowagiac, and yes, because I’ve met so many new people.

What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?

AS: Taylor Hulett being a leader on and off the court.

What is your favorite hobby? Why?

AS: Sports, because it keeps me busy and out of trouble.
