Zimmerman signs with Indianapolis

Niles senior Elyse Zimmerman signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at the University of Indianapolis Wednesday.

Zimmerman, a four-year starter for the Vikings, signed her letter of intend at ICE Gym in Mishawaka, Indiana on the MBA Select court, where she has spent nine years playing travel basketball.

“I really liked the coaches and the atmosphere of the campus,” Zimmerman said. “The coaches were easy to talk to and went to a lot of my MBA Select games. When I did my visit, everything clicked and I fell in love with U of Indy.”h careers I am considering.”

Through her first three years at Niles, Zimmerman has averaged 14.8 points per game, 6.8 rebounds, 3.3 assist and 4.5 steals.

As a junior, she was named honorable mention all-state by the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM) as well as first team All-SMAC her junior and sophomore years.

She was honorable mention All-SMAC as a freshman.

She is currently 10th all-time in scoring for the Vikings.

She was also chosen to participate in the BCAM Reaching Higher Showcase last summear, which features the top players in Michigan.

As a member of the Niles track team, Zimmerman has earned all-conference, all-region and all-state honors as a sprinter.

Zimmerman has been a member of the MBA Select since third grade. Those teams have captured numerous championships throughout the midwest, including the Indiana AAU state title.

The University of Indianapolis is a Division II school, which is a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
