Buchanan Senior Center adds yoga class

The following events and activities will be offered at the Buchanan Area Senior Center in the coming weeks.

The Buchanan Area Senior Center is a community focal point on aging, where area older adults come together for services, programs and activities. The BASC is located at 810 Rynearson St., in Buchanan. Hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Chair yoga

Tuesdays, 1:30 p.m.

A new chair yoga class is replacing Tai Chi class for the winter. The class, taught by a trained instructor from the Niles-Buchanan YMCA, will be offered Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m. Chair yoga will move the whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses.

Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance, and range of movement. There is no class fee and the public is welcome to attend.

 

Vendors needed for Christmas Bazaar

Saturday, Dec. 5

The Buchanan Area Senior Center will host its annual Christmas bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tables for the bazaar are first-come, first-served, and are $10 for a long table and $5 for a small table. Call (269) 695-7119 to reserve a table.

 

Craft classes offered

Wednesdays, Nov. 11 & 18, 5:30 p.m.

The Buchanan Area Senior Center is offering two evening craft classes to help people make gifts for holiday giving. For those who like to sew, join the Nov. 11 class and make quick and pretty table runners and microwave neck and hand warmers.

On Nov. 18 several food gifts in a jar will be prepared. Each class is $5, which covers all materials. Everyone is welcome but those interested must sign up in advance at (269) 695-7119.

 

Caring for an Aging Pet

Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1 p.m.

Pets have different needs as they age, just like people. Dr. Carol Ecker from the Humane Society of St. Joseph County in South Bend, will address many issues older pets face in this.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn about changes in diet and physical ability, how to tell if something is wrong and when to visit the vet.

 

Friday Matinees

Nov. 13 and 27, 1:15 p.m.

The Buchanan Area Senior Center offers free Friday matinees in the library on the second and fourth Fridays of the month. The Nov. 13 movie will be “Black or White,” starring Kevin Costner, Octavia Spencer, and Gillian Jacobs. On Nov. 27, the comedy “What We Did on Our Holiday” will be shown, starring Rosamund Pike, David Tennant, and Billy Connolly. The movies include popcorn and beverage and everyone is welcome.
