Kent Irving Langworthy, 86, of Cassopolis, entered into the arms of his Savior at his home Wednesday morning, Nov. 4, 2015.

He was born July 21, 1929, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Gustave and Gertrude (Potter) Langworthy. He married Barbara Jean Brinkert August 25, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois, and remained married until she preceded him in death November 9, 2003. He was also preceded by his parents; one son, Robert Langworthy, Sr.; and one grandson, Robert Langworthy, II; one sister, Jane Rogers; and one brother William Langworthy.

Kent was an adventurous lifelong learner who was not afraid to try anything. He spent the early part of his professional career as a graphic artist for Ingersoll/Borg Warner in Kalamazoo before finishing his teaching degree at Western Michigan University. He taught at Portage Central High School for three years before teaching art to elementary and high school students in Cassopolis Public Schools for twenty nine years. Kent loved photography and music. He was a member of the Southwest Michigan Organ Club. He was fascinated with aviation. Kent traveled throughout the United States and Europe and always had his camera handy. He loved to cruise to Alaska. Kent enjoyed teaching and ran into his former students throughout his life. He was a confirmed optimist. Kent and his wife, Barbara, had many foster children. “Our Dad loved life and lived it to the fullest.”

Kent will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by two daughters, Mary and her husband, James Peoples of Dallas, North Carolina, Karen and her husband Jay Hansell of Britt, Iowa; two sons, Kevin and his wife, Kathleen Langworthy of Mattawan, David C. Langworthy of Cassopolis; four granddaughters; seven grandsons; nine great grandchildren; and one brother Jerome, and his wife, Patty Langworthy of Kalamazoo.

Family and friends will gather Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, at 11 a.m. for Mass in Saint Ann Catholic Church, 421 North Broadway St., Cassopolis, with the Reverend Father Donald G. Potts, officiating. Mr. Langworthy’s remains will be laid to rest beside those of his beloved wife, Barbara, in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Cassopolis.
