Maybe I should be the Lions’ general manager

Dear Martin Mayhew,

Since I see you have been struggling as the general manager of the Detroit Lions, I was wondering if you would like a little help from a GM who is having tremendous success this season with his football team.

Fantasy football, that is.

As the GM of “The Champ is Here,” I have been able to put together a contending football team that is currently in first place in our Leader Publications league.

I have vast experience as a GM in other leagues and have even claimed one championship, although it was quite some time ago.

I like you lost my first game. But unlike you and the Lions, I have now won seven consecutive games and have climbed from the cellar into first place after dominating the best team in our league this past weekend.

I see the Lions only have one victory this season and it was against a team that is also struggling — the Chicago Bears.

I know that the Lions have had some issues with injuries, but so has my team. I have had to find a player just hours before kickoff to fill in for another player who had been ruled out for that contest.

But unlike you, my roster moves have proved successful.

Here is a perfect example.

Two weeks ago when Marcus Mariota was ruled out with a knee injury I moved Ryan Tannehill into the starting quarterback role.

I know that many people thought I was crazy and I have to admit, I was a bit apprehensive about it myself.

But what do you know, Tannehill turned in a career game and I was able to move into a first-place tie in my league.

Pretty impressive, huh?

To date, I have made nine roster moves, second most in the league, and claimed seven players off the waver wire, also second most in our league.

I have not seen you make a lot of roster moves this season to try and help the Lions get better.

I understand that your coach, Jim Caldwell, made the moves last week to fire the offensive coordinator and some line coaches, but that move did not pan out well as you looked even worse on Sunday against Kansas City than the previous week when you lost to Minnesota.

I know that yesterday was the trade deadline for the NFL and as of writing this letter Tuesday morning, you and the Lions had not made any moves yet.

So, in closing, I am offering my services to you or whomever may be your replacement.

It is obvious that your team is going nowhere this season and dramatic changes must be made.

If you need references, you can contact any of the seven team owners I have crushed this season on my march from the bottom to the top of our league.

Respectfully

Scott Novak
