Firefighters responded to a report of smoke at the Four Flags Area Credit Union in Niles Monday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to a report of smoke at the Four Flags Area Credit Union in Niles Monday afternoon.

The Niles Fire Department responded to a report of smoke at the Four Flags Area Credit Union at approximately 4 p.m. Monday.

Chief Larry Lamb said the ballast on a fluorescent lighting unit in the building had gone bad, causing the smoke. Firefighters were able to locate the bad ballast and remove it before any damage occurred.

The credit union is located at 1012 S. 11th St., Niles.
