Dowagiac’s offense hitting its stride

The Dowagiac football team will roll into the post season coming of it biggest offensive performance of the season.

The Chieftains (6-3) travel to Benton Harbor (5-4) tonight for the opening round of the Division 4 playoffs. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m.

The Chieftain set season highs in points (49) and passing yards (359) and total yards (437).

Dowagiac needed every one of those yards and points in beating Paw Paw 49-46 to earn a spot in the postseason.

Senior quarterback Anthony Neubauer accounted for many of those yards as he threw for 341 yards and four touchdowns.

Neubauer has now thrown for 673 yards and seven touchdowns on 35-of-67 passing.

Erik Walker leads the Chieftains in rushing with 501 yards on 68 attempts for an average of 7.4 yards per carry. He has a team-high 12 receptions for 295 yards. He has scored a total of five touchdowns.

Collin Hassle leads Dowagiac in tackles with 117, including 17 for loss with three sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and an interception.

Austin Jones is second on the team with 78 tackles.
