Four people were injured in a four-vehicle accident involving a school bus late Wednesday morning on South 11th Street in Niles Charter Township.

The Michigan State Police Niles Post is reporting that no students on the Berrien RESA school bus were injured. However, the driver of the bus and a student aid were taken by ambulance to Lakeland Hospital in Niles.

The accident occurred at approximately 11:54 a.m. on South 11th Street just north of U.S. 12.

According to police, a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero driven by a 16-year-old female from Niles pulled out from the stop sign at South Street to go south on South 11th Street (also called M-51). The Alero was broadsided by an oncoming northbound 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by a 56-year-old Niles woman.

The Alero then struck a southbound school bus and a Ford pickup.

The passenger of the Alero and the driver of the Cobalt were transported by ambulance to Lakeland Hospital.

None of the injuries appear to be life threatening, police said in a press release.

The driver of the Alero was cited for failing to yield to oncoming traffic.

Niles Fire Chief Gary Brovold said at the scene that the bus was from Blossomland Learning Center.
