Post offices to close for Veterans’ Day

The U.S. Postal Service will observe Veterans’ Day, which is a federal holiday, on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Local post offices in the Greater Michigan District (zip code prefixes beginning with 486-491 and 493-499) will be closed and there will be no mail delivery or retail service on this day.

However, customers are encouraged to still drop their mail in blue street collection boxes, so they can be processed early the next day.

“We advised anyone with stamped or metered mail ready for delivery to deposit it early in the day into a blue collection box,” said Sabrina Todd, media and communications spokesperson for the Greater Michigan District Postal Service. “This also applies to business customers that are open during the holiday.” Residents can also call their local Post Office (or 1-800-ASK-USPS/1-800-275-8777) to obtain hours of operation information.

Post offices will reopen for business on Thursday, Nov. 12.

The postal service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
