McKinzie Kiggins is a senior on the Dowagiac volleyball team.

 

What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?

MK: Winning the NSA 16U B state and World Series in 2014.

What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?

MK: Not winning the Dowagiac volleyball or softball district title last year.

What has been a hardship in your life?

MK: When my father was having surgery to have cancer removed.

Who is a “hero” in your life and why?

MK: My mother because she had a very hard childhood and continues to be the best anyone can ask for.

When are you the most nervous while you are competing?

MK: Right before any game starts.

Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

MK: Swinging at a change up in softball and missing it completely.

How do you tend to workout/train when by yourself?

MK: I go to the weight room over the summer, run and hit for softball. I practice bumping or pepper for volleyball.

What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?

MK: Tennis.

Who would you say is your “biggest fan?”

Why?

MK: Mom because she makes it a point to come to every game.

How would you give away $50,000?

MK: I’d give it all to my parents. (It’s about what I owe them)

If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?

MK: I would chose a volleyball or softball team that is in the age of 6 to 10 year old because they would always keep me laughing and on my toes.

If I did not play sports, I would…?

MK: I wouldn’t not play sports.

What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

MK: Forget about a mistake I made.

If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?

MK: Touches on blocks don’t count if they go out.

What is the best compliment you have ever

received?

MK: That was a perfect pass. (volleyball) Even if she gets out, I know you’re right behind her in the line up. (softball)

What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?

MK: Go to a leadership camp all by myself. Yes, I met a ton of new friends.

What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?

MK: A video of a really long volley by two college teams.

What is your favorite hobby? Why?

MK: Sports because it keeps me in shape and I’m competitive.
