On Monday, Oct. 19, 2015, Dennis Keith Schuur passed away peacefully in his sleep at Rose Arbor Hospice House in Kalamazoo after a long battle with heart disease. Dennis was born on Sept. 14, 1981, and graduated from Dowagiac High School in 2000.

Dennis leaves behind his beloved daughter, Kaitlyn Riley Schuur, his parents, David and Nanette (Strong) Schuur, his sister, Paula (Aaron) Cassel of Mishawaka, Indiana, Paula’s children, Andrew, Addison and Alexander Cassel, his grandmothers, Catherine Warner of Kalamazoo and Janice Strong of Marcellus and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Dennis was a diehard Notre Dame football fan, and could often be heard screaming at the TV on game days. Even when receiving treatment for his heart condition at the University of Michigan, he never failed to let the staff know, as grateful as he was for their help, he would always be a Notre Dame fan.

In the summers Dennis could be seen driving around town in his Mustang convertible. He was well known at all the parts stores and body shops in the area. He loved his cars, and always welcomed any opportunity to talk to people about cars….especially Mustangs.

Although he loved Notre Dame and his cars, he loved his daughter more. He was able to spend a lot of time with Katie over the past four years. They enjoyed fishing, swimming, watching movies and acting silly together. They shared the same crazy sense of humor. This past summer they were able to take a memory-making vacation to the Wisconsin Dells. They also enjoyed traveling to Chicago, Lake Michigan and most of all to his grandparent’s house on Cedar Lake together. Dennis would do anything for those people that he considered his friends.

On Friday Oct. 23, 2015, there will be a celebration of Dennis’ life at the Michiana Church of Christ, 509 E. Prairie Ronde, Dowagiac, Michigan. Dennis was baptized into Christ and was a member of the Michiana Church of Christ where family and friends will meet for fellowship from 3 to 5 p.m., followed by a Going Home Service at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dennis’ name to the Michiana Church of Christ’s building fund.
