Kathleen Mae Sallak, 81, of Niles passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015, at her home with loved ones by her side after a year-long battle with cancer.

Kathy was born on July 30, 1934, to the late Jesse and T. Gladys (Neill) Lierley in Bethany, Missouri. She was a graduate of Niles High School in the class of 1952. On Aug. 15, 1952, Kathy married Bohumir “Peter” Sallak at a ceremony in Niles. Together they raised five children and one grandchild. Kathy was a homemaker who enjoyed card games, crossword puzzles and watching her family play baseball. She was a huge bargain hunter and could be seen frequently at garage sales and local thrift stores.

She is survived by her children, Brenda (Robert) Holmes, Melody (Dan Hayes) Sallak, Rex (Kelly) Sallak, Jeffrey Sallak and grandson they raised as their own, Peter (Kelli) Shrider; grandchildren, Brittanee Nelson, Robert (Missy) Homes, Clint Holmes, Wyatt Holmes, Warren Loignon, Whitney (Tony) Aguinaga, Christopher Sallak, Jennifer (Nick) Bockaj, Sonya Sallak, Jesse (Jamie) Sallak and thirteen great grandchildren.

Kathy is reunited with her husband of 61 years who passed away two years ago this month as well as her beautiful daughter, Kay Ryor Sallak; grandson, Jamen Ryor and brothers, Donald and James Lierley.

A funeral service to honor Kathy’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday Oct. 17, 2015, at Hoven Funeral Home in Buchanan with Pastor Mike Cramer of New Life Church in Osceola, Indiana, officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles.
