Local law enforcement agencies believe the same person is responsible for five robberies in Niles in a span of two weeks.

Det. Richard Krueger, of the Niles Police Department, said the crime spree began with the Sept. 23 robbery of Bell Plaza Party Store on South 11th Street in Niles and continued with the Sept. 29 robbery of Sunrise Corners Party Store on Huntly Road in Howard Township.

Then, on Oct. 3, there were two robberies — one at the Admiral Gas Station on Oak Street in Niles and another at the Marathon Gas Station/Mini Mart at the corner of U.S. 12 and Reum Road in Niles.

The most recent robbery occurred Oct. 5 at the Admiral Gas Station on Oak Street — the same one that was robbed Oct. 3.

Krueger said police believe it is the same person based on the physical stature of the robber and the mode of operation in each robbery.

Det. Fabian Suarez, of the Michigan State Police Niles Post, said the man fits the same general description based on video surveillance captured during the robberies.

Suarez said, fortunately, no one has been injured.

Krueger said the man had a knife in the first two robberies and used a gun in the last three, beginning with the robbery of the Admiral Gas Station Oct. 3.

Cash was taken in all instances.

In the Sept. 23 robbery of Bell Plaza Party Store, the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department described the suspect as a white male standing approximately 5 foot, 10 inches tall and weighing approximately 230 pounds.

Police do not have a suspect at this time.
