Buchanan celebrates the harvest

Buchanan will hold its annual fall festival — Harvest Buchanan — Friday and Saturday in and around the downtown area of the Redbud City.

Admission is free, although people will have to pay to enjoy some of the many activities planned for the two-day celebration.

The action kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday with the Buchanan High School homecoming parade, followed by the school’s varsity football game against Comstock at 7 p.m.

Then, from 9 to 11:30 p.m., a dance for kids ages 12-18 will be held at the common area downtown. Cost to attend the dance is $2.

The majority of the events, including a 5K run, kids tractor pull, motorcycle benefit ride and free live music, will take place Saturday.

The common area will have local eateries, wine and beer available after noon throughout the day. Campfire rings will be provided by the city.

Below is a full schedule of Saturday’s events:

8 a.m. — Farmer’s Market

8 to 11 a.m. — Pancake breakfast

9 a.m. — Third annual McCoy Creek Trail 5K run/walk (check in starts at 7:30 a.m.)

10 a.m. — Historical marker dedication at Mill Alley

10 a.m. — Zumba at the common area

11 a.m. — Motorcycle benefit ride

Noon — Food at the common area by Wheatberry Restaurant & Tavern

1 p.m. — Children’s Pedal Tractor Pull

2 p.m. — Classic Car Cruise-In with Elvis and disc jockey

2 p.m. — Live music at the common area: Me and the Boys (Motown band)

3 p.m. — Pumpkin Jamboree

4 p.m. — Live music at the common area: Sypian Family Band

7 p.m. — Live music at the common area: 5th Gear
