Turnovers cost Dowagiac in loss to Plainwell

PLAINWELL — Six turnovers were too much for visiting Dowagiac to overcome Friday night.

The Chieftains had three interceptions and three fumbles lost in a 17-8 Wolverine Conference loss to Plainwell.

The loss drops Dowagiac to 3-3 on the season and forces the Chieftains to win its final three games to qualify for the playoffs. Dowagiac will host 5-1 Sturgis for homecoming Friday.

Trailing 17-0 in the fourth quarter, Erik Walker scored on a 65-yard run to avert the shutout for the Chieftains.

Walker had 1-1 yards rushing on 10 carries.

Dowagiac was outgained by Plainwell 252-226.
