Brandywine’s football team took advantage of a struggling Comstock defense and rolled to a 46-6 BCS.Athletic Conference win over the Colts Friday.

The Bobcats, who bounced back from a 22-18 loss to Parchment last Saturday, scored touchdowns on their first five possessions.

“That was a tough loss against Parchment,” Brandywine coach Mike Nate said. “We came out tonight and our offensive line took over. I’m sure we had good rushing numbers. I have to give the game ball to the our offensive line because all our backs had plenty of room to run.”

Brandywine rushed for 336 yards with Jeshua Weise leading the way with 137 yards on the ground on 18 carries with two touchdowns. Brandon Hatch added 134 yards rushing on 19 carries with three touchdowns.

Comstock, which fell to 0-5, was allowing 61 points a game entering Friday’s contest.

Defensively, the Bobcats held the Colts to 156 yards with 65 of those yards coming on a touchdown pass from Shane Easter to Tyler Mays with 34 seconds left in the game.

Zach Grishaber had two interceptions for Brandywine and Austin Knapp had a fumble recovery. Knapp’s fumble recovery at Comstock’s 41-yard line set up Brandywine’s first touchdown of the game. Corbin Eckenberger’s six-yard touchdown run and Hatch’s two-point conversion run gave the Bobcats an 8-0 lead with 8:49 left in the first quarter.

Grishaber’s 33-yard interception return set up Brandywine’s final touchdown of the first half. Hatch’s one-yard plunge with 2:28 left in the second quarter capped a 36-yard drive. That score gave the Bobcats a 34-0 lead.

“It’s a big win for us because it gets us to 3-2 and keeps our goals alive for the season to win the conference and go to the playoffs,” Nate said.
