What’s happening at the Niles District Library?

Monday, Sept. 14

• 1 p.m. — Job skills workshop

Nick Pittman, manager of the Community Career Center of Goodwill Industries of Michiana, will talk about the dos and don’ts of attending a job fair. The workshop will help job seekers prepare for the upcoming job fair at the library Sept. 16.

 

Tuesday, Sept. 15

• 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. — The Connection (Emergency Shelter Services)

The Connection is the fruition of grassroots efforts to implement the Housing Resource Network’s 10-year plan to end homelessness in Berrien County. Housed at the Mercy Center in Benton Harbor, this program of Emergency Shelter Services is a one-stop shop for help when housing is threatened or just for referrals and information.

• 4 to 6 p.m. — The Writing Group

The Writing Group is a place for passionate writers to share their ideas and experiences with writing of all types with other passionate writers. All participants will have a chance to share their work and receive constructive criticism and tips for their writing.

 

Wednesday, Sept. 16

• Multiple times – Storytime day

Squealers (birth-18 months) at 9:30 a.m., Squigglers (18 months-3 years) at 10 and 11 a.m., Storytime (3-5 years) at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

• 10:30 a.m. — Special Edition: Movie Day showing “Cinderella” (2015)

Special Edition is a weekly series of programs designed to be particularly accessible and engaging for adults and children with special needs. Everyone is welcome.

• 1 to 3 p.m. — Job Fair

As a service to both patrons and area employers, the library is working with MI Works!/Kinexus and the Four Flags Area Chamber of Commerce to give employers and jobseekers an opportunity to meet and network. Tables are available for employers, and computers are available for jobseekers to complete online applications, brush up on application or interview skills through online tutorials, or to have a little help navigating online job posting sites. Questions, employer registration, comments, or suggestions can be sent to laura.hollister@nilesibrary.net. Currently registered employers include Resource MFG and SMX Staffing.

 

Thursday, Sept. 17

• 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. — Storytime

• 1 to 5 p.m. — Mahjong

Volunteers are available to teach newcomers how to play. Other board games are also available.

• 6:30 p.m. — The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: Book Discussion and Encouragement

This best-selling guide to de-cluttering the home from Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes readers step-by-step through her revolutionary KonMari Method for simplifying, organizing, and storing.

 

Friday, Sept. 18

• 1 to 3 p.m. —Twisted Stitches

Bring yarn or sewing project and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea. All skill levels welcome.

• 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. — Life Size Clue for Teens

Who killed Mr. Boddy? Come to the library and find out. Play the life size version of the classic game, using the library itself as the game board. (Doors locked at 6 p.m.)

 

Saturday, Sept. 19

• 10 a.m. to noon — Chess Club

Chess Club meets the first and third Saturday of each month. All ages and abilities are welcome to join the fun.

• 10:30 a.m. — Toddler Time: Dough Day

This is a playgroup for children ages birth to three years old. This is a great opportunity for parent-to-parent interaction, as well as child-to-child interactions.

• 1 p.m. — Twisted Stitches

Bring your yarn or sewing project and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while you chat and work. All skill levels welcome.
