Frederick Lee “Rick” Holliday, 42, of Niles, Michigan died unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, Sept. 10, 2015, while traveling on the Indiana Michigan River Valley Trail just north of the state line.

He was born on February 22, 1973, in Charleston, West Virginia to William Daniel and Geneva Kay (Brown) Holliday. He attended Charleston schools and Volunteered with the Charleston Fire Department. He has lived in Niles since 2002, and was employed for several years at Schilling’s Auto Wash.

Rick enjoyed being outside, and often traveled the Indiana Michigan River Valley Trail. He loved his dog, Bueller, and is well remembered for his cooking skills.

On June 20, 2009, in Niles he married Christine Melton, who survives. Also surviving is Rick’s mother, Kay (Michael) Elkins of Danville, West Virginia; Kris’ children, Dannie Melton and Sarah Melton; and Rick’s nine siblings, Sonny Holliday, Allen (Sandy) Crist of North Carolina, Danny Paul Cook of Virginia, Connie (Mark) McQuaid of Nitro, West Virginia, Bonnie Holliday, Debbie Holliday, Lane (Loretta) Holliday, Patty Holliday Weekly, and Peggy Stamper, all of Charleston; and many nieces and nephews.

The visitation, funeral service, and interment for Rick Holliday will be under the direction of the Handley Funeral Home in Danville, West Virginia. Arrangements in Niles were made at the Halbritter Funeral Home.
