Vikings fall to Benton Harbor 35-13

BENTON HARBOR — The Benton Harbor Tigers defeated Niles 35-13 to win back-to-back games for the first time since 2005.

After losing 19 consecutive contests, the Tigers snapped their losing streak with a 14-9 win over Battle Creek Central Sept. 3.

Benton Harbor used a potent ground game to follow that up with a win over the Vikings, who drop to 0-3 on the season.

The Tigers rushed for 321 yards and finished with 361 yards in total offense against Niles, which finished with 353 yards of total offense, including 195 yards passing.

Percy Brown led the rushing attack with 96 yards and three touchdowns. He scored on runs of 4, 1 and 3 yards. Tim Bell added 78 yards and a touchdown run.

Niles’ Alex Harpenau had a hand in both touchdowns as he hit Camron Canniff with a 6-yard pass and scored on a 1-yard quarterback sneak.

The game was delayed for several minutes as Canniff suffered an apparent neck injury and had to be carted off the field and sent to the hospital.

Cameron Haines rushed for 92 yards, while Josh Buckingham and Joe Avance added 38 and 33 yards respectively.

Harpenau was 20-of-40 for 195 yards and a pair of interceptions.
