Niles Walmart customers can expect to see some major and minor changes at the retail supermarket location in the coming weeks and months.

Store Manager Ashlie Bolin said their store is in line for a significant remodeling project next year that will include upgrades to the exterior, interior and parking lot.

“That is in the spring,” said Bolin, who became the store manager five months ago after working as a co-manager of the Walmart on Portage Road in South Bend, Indiana. She’s been a Wal-Mart employee for 11 years, starting as a temporary cashier.

The Niles Walmart, she said, is also scheduled to receive new machines in the recyclables area at the front of the store.

“Hopefully within the next 30 days,” she said.

Bolin also said the store will receive new grocery carts and new grocery cart stalls in the parking lot in the near future.

The changes and upgrades, she said, are based on feedback they’ve received from customers, mainly in the form of online surveys.

Bolin said customers indicated that they wanted new carts and cart stalls and a more attractive and functional recyclables area.

“That is one of our biggest customer complaints,” she said of the recyclables area.

Other changes they’ve made in the past few months include de-cluttering the walking aisles and changing the layout of the produce section.

Bolin said they are also devoting more time and attention to the restrooms.

All of these things, she said, were improvements customers said they wanted. She said her main focus since coming to Niles has been to find out ways to improve the customer’s experience.

“Stores can always be better… We are getting a lot of positive feedback from some of the things we’ve been doing,” Bolin said. “We want to continue on that path.”

Bolin encouraged customers to provide feedback, whether it is through online surveys, a phone call or in person.
