Catherine May Peterson, 86, of South Bend, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015, in the Cardinal Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in South Bend. Catherine was born in Dowagiac, Michigan on Feb. 15, 1929, to the late Clifford and Olive (Bales) Stanton. On March 22, 1947, in Dowagiac, she married Marvin E. Peterson, he preceded her in death on Sept. 2, 2009.

Catherine is survived by her children; Jeanne Gonzales of Athens, Georgia, Kathy Steele of Mishawaka, Indiana, John Peterson of Niles, and Thomas Peterson of Elkhart. She was the proud grandmother of 10, great-grandmother of 27, and a great-great grandmother of 3. Catherine is also survived by her siblings; Gerald Stanton of Rhode Island, Doris Wilson of Mishawaka, Laura Rohacs of Dowagiac, and Sharon Stanton of Dowagiac, along with brother-in-law, Jerry Peterson of Dowagiac,. She was preceded in death by four brothers; Bill Stanton, Clifford Stanton Jr., Donald Stanton Sr., John Stanton, and a sister, Opal Bell.

Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, Aug. 25, from 10 until 11 a.m. in the Osceola Grace Brethren Church, 58343 Apple Rd., Osceola. A service celebrating Catherine’s life will be held at 11 a.m. with Pastor Greg Serafino officiating. Burial will take place at 2 p.m. in the Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles. Bubb Funeral Chapel assisted the family with arrangements.
