Dowagiac wins Cassopolis Classic

CASSOPOLIS — A new era dawned on Dowagiac volleyball at the Cassopolis Classic Saturday.

The Chieftains welcomed new coach Rachel Zeider with a perfect day and a championship, as Dowagiac edged Michigan Lutheran 26-24 and 25-23 in the title match.

In reaching the finals, the Chieftains defeated Bangor (25-15, 25-12), River Valley (25-20, 25-21) and Michigan Lutheran (25-21, 26-24).

In the semifinals, Dowagiac knocked off New Buffalo and former coach Carl Greulich, 25-12 and 25-18.

Taylor Hulett had nine kills and a block in the championship match, while Annie Ennesser had five kills and a block.

Dowagiac also got three kills from Heather Olson and two kills each from Brittany Malin and Emily Demeter. Kassidy Binns had three aces and Natalie Davis two.
