Registration for the Oct. 3 Dirty Bird Mud Run at Southwestern Michigan College is now open.

Participants may register online at https://runsignup.com/Race/MI/Dowagiac/DirtyBirdMudRunSMC. Cost is $25, plus a $2.50 sign-up fee.

The Dirty Bird is a challenging, team-based event held on the SMC campus, which raises money for the Military Veterans’ Scholarship at SMC. Since its inception in 2012, the Dirty Bird has raised nearly $20,000.

Check-in will begin at 9 a.m. the morning of the event. Runners are asked to report to the starting area at least 10 minutes before the run begins.

There will be water and sponges available at aid stations throughout the course and first aid personnel available.

The Dirty Bird is a three to four mile course that combines military-style obstacles, hilly terrain and plenty of mud.

The event is open to anyone from super-fit mud run experts to first-time mudders.

A team consists of three, four or five participants. Team members may run free on the course, but may not advance to the next obstacle until all team members complete the previous obstacle.

Teams finish together, preferably with arms linked.

Finish times may be viewed on a large overhead clock at the finish line. Results will be posted online at https://dirtybird.swmich.edu.
