A number of free and fun activities await visitors to the Dowagiac Moose Lodge on Saturday, June 27, as the local service organization teams up with Dowagiac IT3 to present its first ever child ID day.

Using technology provided through the EZ Child ID program, parents will be able to create ID cards for their children, complete with fingerprint scans. The information will also be stored on a CD that the parents can take with them, with all the children’s vitals wiped from the machine they were created on immediately after they get done making it, said Dowagiac IT3 Owner Brian Antisdel.

“If their kid ever goes missing, they can share that CD out with authorities, since it has all their child’s pertinent information on it,” Antisdel said.

Volunteers with the Dowagiac computer repair shop will be on hand at the event that Saturday as well, where they will be serving free bratwurst and hotdogs to visiting kids and parents. They will also have a number of free giveaways and games for visitors to enjoy throughout the day as well, including awarding a free tablet to one lucky person, Antisdel said.

“It’s going to be a mini carnival,” he said.

The business owner has been looking to put on a free cookout for the rest of the community for several months, hoping to host it at his business, located downtown. However, space constraints made that appear to be an unrealistic option.

It was then that the Moose Lodge offered their assistance, allowing the business to join up with them during the child ID day they had lined up later in June.

“We decided to merge the events, and it turned into an amazing new thing,” Antisdel said.
