Summer food programs rock

On Thursday’s Giving page in the Cassopolis Vigilant and Edwardsburg Argus you will find a story about the area’s summer lunch programs.

We would like to applaud the organizers of these programs for all their hard work in making sure that our children are getting nutritious meals during the summertime.

This summer there are programs in Cassopolis, Dowagiac, Brandywine and the Buchanan school districts.

Each program begins at a different time and there are several locations to choose from in most cases.

The Cassopolis Public Schools, through the efforts of their food service director Robyn Bright, have had a successful program for many years.

In Cassopolis they provide breakfast and lunch, while in Buchanan and Dowagiac will be serving free lunches.

Buchanan is also sponsoring a summer food program in Niles.

Brandywine’s program will begin in July. Read more about these programs on our Giving page.

We know that these programs are needed to help make sure that children in our area are getting at least one healthy meal a day.

We encourage those with children 18 and younger to take advantage of these programs. Not only will they get a nutritious meal, but they may make a new friend of two as well.
