Charges filed in 2006 Family Dollar robbery

Charges have been filed stemming from the Dec. 18, 2006 armed robbery of the Edwardsburg Family Dollar Cass County Prosecutor Victor Fitz and Edwardsburg Police Chief Timothy Kozal announced Wednesday.

The charges are a result of a recent intensive investigation by Kozal and his department. The investigation resulted in evidence sufficient for the Prosecutor’s Office to authorize the following charges against 28-year-old Trevin Deshon Safford:

• Conspiracy to commit Safe Breaking: life or any term of years and/or $10,000

• Conspiracy to commit armed robbery: life or any term of years

• Safe breaking: life or any term of years

• Armed robbery: life or any term of years

• Unlawful imprisonment: 15 years and/or $20,000

• Carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent: five years or $2,500

• Six counts of felony firearm: two years consecutively preceding any term of imprisonment imposed for the felony or attempted felony conviction.

Kozal swore out the above charges in front of the Cass County District court earlier Wednesday.

Safford is now in custody in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area. Legal process will be initiated by the prosecutor’s office to return Safford to Michigan to face these charges.
