Cassopolis Board of Education seeking trustee candidate

The Cassopolis Board of Education is seeking a candidate for the trustee position following the resignation of John Bright Tuesday.

Bright, who was the vice president of the board and the chairman of the finance committee, said in his resignation letter “I have greatly enjoyed the cooperative experience of serving on the school board and working with all the board members, administration team, faculty and committee members.”

When contacted Tuesday, Bright said that he had accomplished many of the things he wanted to get done.

“We got the bond out to the voters,” he said. “The finance committee met Monday and we got the next year’s budget set and they are on real solid ground. So everything is real positive. I think going forward, the biggest issue for the board is going to be the sixth, seventh and eighth grade and whether it goes to the elementary or high school.”

Bright said he has talked to people on both sides of the issue and that both sides have a good case.

“I think it is a great opportunity with people having such a great passion that maybe it will give one of those people the change to get on the board and work on that,” Bright said. “I love Cassopolis and I will continue to do what I can with Cass schools.”

The person who is appointed to the vacancy will serve on the board through December 2016.

Applications are available on the district’s website www.cassopolis.k12.mi.us or at the main office in the Squires Education Center, 725 Center St.

Completed applications must be returned to cmartynowicz@cassopolis.org or faxed to 445-0505 by noon June 18.

Candidates are required to attend the June 22 board meeting for brief interviews. The board meets at 7 p.m. the second and fourth Mondays of each month in the Squires Education center.
