Vivian J. Mott, 103, of Dowagiac, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2015, at the Cass County Medical Facility. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at Riverside Cemetery on Riverside Drive in Dowagiac, with Pastor Melody Wallace of First Christian Church officiating.

Vivian was born Jan. 7, 1912 in Bristol, Wisconsin to Edgar and Elizabeth (Brown) Brownell. Vivian left home at the age of 15 during the depression. She moved into the upstairs apartment of the Olympia, where she began caring for the owners’ children and later worked in the store.

Vivian worked in the retail service area for many years. Among her places of employment were the Gambles Department store, a hardware store and then later at Heddon’s Bait. She was very active in her church, the First Christian Church in Dowagiac. Vivian enjoyed quilting and gardening in her free time. She was a caring mother and a loving grandmother.

Vivian is survived by her eight grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Deward Mott, her son Charles Mott, her daughter Carolyn Bannow and a grandson Scott Mott.
