Ruth Helen Hamberger, 90, a long-time resident of Berrien Springs, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2015, in Chico, California, with her family at her side.

Ruth was born Feb. 20, 1925, in Buffalo, New York, to Hugo and Bertha Wagner. She was a teacher of English and French for many years. She was well known for her intoxicating laugh which made others laugh. She loved to have friends around her dining room table.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William Hamberger, and her son, Kevin Hamberger. She is survived by her daughter, Joan (Mark) Calfee of Flournoy, California; son, David (Karen) Hamberger and her grandson, Jeffrey Hamberger, all of Madison, Tennessee.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, at Allred Funeral Home in Berrien Springs. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 21, in the Youth Chapel of Pioneer Memorial Church on the campus of Andrews University, Berrien Springs, followed by a graveside service at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Andrews University for the Ruth Hamberger Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund, which will help students in the secondary teacher education program.
