Brandywine wins sixth regional title in last nine years

SOUTH BEND — The Brandywine tennis team had a finalist in all eight flights of the MHSAA Division 4 Regional at Leeper Park Thursday.

The Bobcats came away with four individual championship on their way to a sixth regional title in the last six years.

Brandywine finished with 28 points, while defending regional champion Berrien Springs was second with 21 points. Lake Michigan Catholic finished third with 14.

Buchanan was fifth with 10 points and Dowagiac sixth with seven points.

Both Brandywine and Berrien Springs advance to the Division 4 state finals May 29-30 at Holland.

Winning individual championships for the Bobcats were Shaylee Smith at No. 3 singles and Emily Erwin at No. 4 singles.

Erwin improved to 21-0 on the year after defeating Camille Bauer of Bridgman 6-1 and 6-3 in the finals.

Brandywine’s No. 2 doubles team of Katie Rose and Krystal Bunch also remained undefeated (22-0) after being Berrien Springs’ Skye Connell and Lilly Sheline in the finals 6-4 and 6-3.

Hallie Carnes and Olivia DePriest captured the other regional title for the Bobcats as they defeated Callie Stob and Ramdsen Holets of Berrien Springs 6-2 and 6-3.
