Niles 1-1 at Sturgis Invitational

STURGIS — The Niles baseball team went 1-1 at the Sturgis Invitational Saturday.

The Vikings (8-1) were defeated by Jackson Lumen Christi 11-3 in the first game, but rebounded to defeat host Sturgis 13-7 in the consolation contest.

In the first game, Lumen Christi scored eight runs in the fourth inning to break open the close contest.

Chris Frantz took the loss for the Vikings. Jordan Ham came on in relief in the fifth inning.

Niles finished with eight hits, including a triple by Wyatt Thornton and a double by Bryce Lake.

In the consolation game, Drew Huffman and Thornton combined to get the Vikings the victory with Huffman picked up the win.

Niles finished with 13 runs on 16 hits, including three each from Huffman and Alex Hardy. Hardy had a pair of doubles and Huffman a double and a triple.

Thorton also had three hits including a pair of triples.
