For the second time this week, a Niles pitcher has tossed a no-hitter.
The host Vikings swept Benton Harbor 11-1 and 10-0 in a pair of five inning SMAC West Division games Thursday.
In the nightcap, Jacob Hamm threw a no-hitter for Niles. He struck out three.
Jake Huffman tossed a no-hitter on Tuesday against Kalamazoo Loy Norrix.
A six-run second inning blew open the contest.
Jordan Ham, Christ Frantz, Jake Huffman and Bryce Lake all had two hits apiece for the Vikings.
“Jacob Hamm had a real nice outing after putting some extra work in this week to improve his breaking ball and it showed,” Niles coach Mike Vota said.
In the opener, Niles only had four hits, but scored four times in the first and third innings thanks in part to several Tiger miscues.
Drew Huffman tripled and dove in two runs, while Jason Hoida scored three times.
“Was not happy with our offensive approach in game one and the team did a nice job of making some adjustments and looked better going into game two,” Vota said. “Overall, good team wins. Looking forward to our tournament Saturday. Need to have a good practice today to prepare for the tournament tomorrow.”
Niles will compete in the Sturgis Invitational Saturday.
