PLAINWELL — Visiting Dowagiac gave up just two runs and eight hits in a doubleheader sweep of Plainwell in Wolverine Conference non-division softball Tuesday.

The Chieftains (4-1) won both games 11-1.

Sabrina Ruiz earned the victory in the opening game with a four-hitter.

Taylor Hulett was 5-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs. Megan Soderbloom went 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI, while Riley Daly, Marissa Dodd, McKenzie Herter and Ruiz all had two hits.

Alyssa Allen and Mickie Kiggins both doubled for the Chieftains.

In the second game, Hulett picked up her third victory of the season as she too tossed a four-hitter.

Kiggins tripled and Allen doubled, while Herter had two hits.

“We got off to slow starts with the bats in both games but by the third time through the line up we started to punish the ball,” Dowagiac coach Mike Behnke said. “We got good pitching tonight and played solid defense with the exception of one inning in the second game. Our baserunning, however, wasn’t good f we don’t clean that up soon, it could cost us some games later on in the season.”
