Bobcats rally twice to sweep Parchment

The Brandywine baseball team came from behind twice to earn a sweep of visiting Parchment Saturday.

The Bobcats (3-1) rallied from a pair of 3-0 deficits to defeat the Panthers 4-3 and 9-8 in non-conference play.

In the opener, Toby Fox went 2-for-3, sparking the Bobcats’ victory.

He singled in the fourth and fifth innings.

Matt Vaughn pitched lights out for Brandywine. Vaughn gave up just two hits, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out five during his three innings of work.

Ben Geiger was the game’s losing pitcher. He lasted just five innings, walked one, struck out six and allowed four runs.

In the top of the second, Parchment grabbed the early lead, 3-0. The Panthers got things going when Geiger singled. A single by Cole Czopek then moved Geiger from second to third. Luke Dexter singled, plating Geiger and Martin Liso The scoreboard lit up again for Parchment when it scored on an RBI single by Brady Jones

The Bobcats never surrendered the lead after the fifth inning, scoring three runs on two singles.

In the second game, Brandywine and Parchment combined for 17 runs and 18 hits, including three extra base hits.

The Bobcats took the lead for good with a four-run fifth inning.

Parchment scored one run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Geiger Still, Parchment couldn’t draw even.

Zach Grishaber did his best to jumpstart the offense for Brandywine, reaching base three times. He scored one run and had one RBI. He singled in the first and second innings.

Fox got the win in relief for the Bobcats. Fox pitched three innings and allowed one run.

Tyler Applegren took the loss for Parchment . He lasted just one inning, walked one, struck out none, and allowed no runs.

The top of the first saw Parchment take an early lead, 3-0. A triple by Alex Dreier scoring Applegren started the inning off. Parchment pushed more runs across when scored on an RBI single by Josh Pelkey and scored on a passed ball.

It didn’t take long for Brandywine to respond as it scored three runs of its own in the second. The Bobcats scored on an error, a groundout by Hunter Janowiak, and an RBI single by Grishaber.

Parchment pushed across one run in both the fourth inning and the sixth. In the fourth, Parchment scored on a fielder’s choice, plating #7.

Brandywine went up for good in the fifth, scoring four runs on a two-run double by Seth Brown and a two-run single by Jeshua Wiese.
