American Legion hosting Veterans Awareness Day event

Veterans, current service personnel and family members of a veteran and current service personnel are invited to celebrate Veterans Awareness Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 11 at the American Legion Building, located at 104 North Third St. in Niles.

Veterans Awareness Day is an outreach event with numerous groups and services available all in one location. Professionals will be on hand to help answer questions and aid guests in signing up for benefits.

Organizations attending to answer questions and offer services include:

• Blue Star Mothers

• American Legion Post No. 26

• American Legion Post No. 51

• VFW Post No. 4952

• Congressman Upton’s office

• Senator Proos’ office

• Forgotten Heroes

• Lest We Forget USA

• Paws with a Cause

• South Bend Vet Center, Mobile VA 30-foot RV

• Moes Mugs and More

• Robert Miller Veterans Center

• Millers Vets Color Guard

• Michigan Medical Foundation

• Michigan Blood

Information will also be available from the Berrien and Cass County veterans service offices.

There will also be free blood pressure checks and the Holistic Wellness Academy will be providing free chair massages.

The American Legion will be collecting non-perishable food items for its food pantry. Food pantry items are only given to veterans and their families. Other items being collected are $20 gift cards to help with gasoline for veterans in need to defray transportation cost to appointments, etc. Those needing more information may contact (269) 876-2923.
