Registration opens soon for Fernwood summer day camps

Fernwood Botanical Garden and Nature Preserve, located at 13988 Range Line Rd., Niles, is offering the following programs and events in the coming weeks.

 

2015 Day Camp Registration Opens

General registration for Fernwood’s popular summer day camps opens at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8. Register at www.fernwoodbotanical.org, by phone, or in person. Those experiencing problems with online registration should call (269) 695-6491 for assistance.

Enrollment is limited and programs fill quickly, so early registration is encouraged to ensure space in the camp of your choice. New this year: All campers receive a 2015 Fernwood Summer Camps T-shirt. All sessions run Tuesday through Friday. Camp details are sent out approximately two weeks before the sessions begin. Yoga

Wednesdays and Saturdays, 12:15–1:30 p.m.

Practice the fundamentals of yoga at Fernwood with instructor, Deirdre Guthrie, of YogaGlow in Three Oaks, and Greta Hurst, Tabula Rasa Gallery, Baroda. Join the classes on Wednesdays and Saturdays, 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome. $10 (Members $8)

 

Nature Saplings: Squirrels

Wednesday, April 8, 1:30–2:30 p.m.

Children ages 2 1/2–3 1/2 with an adult enjoy an introduction to nature. This session will take a look at squirrels. Those wishing to participate should dress for walking the trails.

$5 per child/adult pair (Members $4 per child/adult pair)

 

Knee-High Naturalists: Eggs

Friday, April 10, 1:30–3:30 p.m.

Children ages 4 and 5 explore the woods and gardens of Fernwood to learn about nature.

This class will look at the many kinds of eggs and who lays them. A snack will be provided. Those wishing to participate should dress for w $10 (Members $8)

 

Tatting for Beginners

Saturday, April 11, 10 a.m.–1 p.m.

Tatting is the process of making delicate lace by looping and knotting with a single cotton thread and a small shuttle.

Participants will learn the basic tatting stitches in this workshop taught by Shirley Woods. All materials are included. $25 (Members $20) Register by April 9.

 

Creation Stations: Weaving

Saturday, April 11, 1-3 p.m.

Suitable for children 9–13. Kids can get started in weaving with this easy and fun class. $12 ($10 Members) Register by April 9.

 

Fernwood Photography Club Meeting

Sunday, April 12, 2 p.m.

The photography club is open to all ages and levels of experience and is non-competitive and low-key with a focus on fun. These gatherings combine a one-hour indoor meeting followed by an outdoor photo shoot. There is no fee for the club, but Fernwood membership or admission fees apply.
