Several area churches are hosting events in observance of Good Friday and the Easter holiday.

Below is a list of events submitted to the Niles Daily Star:

 

Old Rugged Cross Church

An ecumenical Good Friday service will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at The Old Rugged Cross Church in Pokagon, 61041 Vermont St., Village of Pokagon.

There will be four half-hour segments, each led by the pastor of a variety of denominations.

• 1 to 1:30 p.m. — Pastor Jeff Whittaker of Michiana Christian Embassy Assembly of God Church (Niles)

• 1:30 to 2 p.m. — Pastor Brenda Gordon of Pokagon United Methodist Church (Pokagon)

• 2 to 2:30 p.m. — Pastor Jim King, Living Way Foursquare Church (Michigan City, IN)

• 2:30 to 3 p.m. — Pastor Dan Greegor, Bible Baptist Church (Sumnerville)

Each segment will include scripture, a devotion, special music and congregational hymns.

 

Niles Area Ministerial Association

The Niles Area Ministerial Association will present its annual Good Friday Service at 7 p.m. Friday.

The service will be held at Summit Church, formerly First Missionary Church, at its new location at 1700 W. River Rd., Niles.

Included in the service will be the opportunity to participate in the celebration of Communion for all believers.

Childcare is available for up to 2 1/2 years of age.

 

Trinity Episcopal Church

Trinity Episcopal Church is holding Holy Week services.

Worship will take place at 7 p.m. today at the church, located at 9 S. Fourth St., Niles.

Downtown churches and a combined choir will join the church at 7 p.m. on Friday, for the Good Friday Liturgy.

Holy Week will continue at 9:30 a.m. Sunday with the Lighting of the Paschal Candle, a Festal Choral Communion Service, including a Children’s procession, Children’s Sunday School, coffee hour and an Easter Egg Hunt with a special appearance of the Easter Bunny.

 

Fairland Christian Church

Fairland Christian Church of Niles, will host a free community Easter egg hunt at 1 p.m. Saturday for children up to 12 years of age. This event is made available to children ages 0 – 12 years old. Fairland Christian Church is located at 1811 River Bluff, Niles.
