The Kiwanis Club of Niles-Southwestern Michigan is hard at work fulfilling its mission, with several projects recently completed and others in the works.

The Kiwanis Club seeks to serve the children in the area by providing winter boots to “keep their toes warm.”

This year, 113 pairs of boots were given to children in the Niles, Brandywine, Buchanan school districts and St Mary’s school in Niles.

The club also sponsors the Niles High School Key Club. Each year the senior members of that club apply for scholarships funded by the club. More than $20,000 worth of scholarships has been awarded in the last nine years.

The Niles club raises most of the necessary funds each year by presenting a Mystery Theater Dinner. The play for this year is entitled “It Doesn’t Have to Rhyme” given by the Four Flags Players.

The dinner and play will be given on April18 at Juday Creek Golf Club with the social hour beginning at 5:30 p.m. In addition to the play, there will be silent auction. Tickets are $35 per person. They can be obtained from any Kiwanis Club member.

This is the 10th year for presenting the mystery dinner. Anyone wishing to donate $10 may send a check to the Michigan Gateway Community Foundation, 111 Days Avenue, Buchanan, MI 49107. Those making contributions are asked to indicate that the funds should be dedicated to the Kiwanis Club of Niles. Patrons can also go to http://mgcf/ and make a contribution using paypal. Contributions are tax deductible.

Kiwanis members will also be raising funds by selling the Southwest Area Super Book coupon books this spring.

The Kiwanis Club of Niles meets every Thursday at noon at the Hob Nob Restaurant. It is one of more than 8,600 Kiwanis clubs with nearly 300,000 members in 89 nations and geographic areas. The motto of the local and international clubs is “Serving the Children of the World”
