After graduating from high school Glenda wed her one true love, Elijah Burton, on Dec. 2, 1967, at a ceremony in Benton Harbor, Michigan. The two celebrated the birth of one daughter and enjoyed nearly 50 years of wedded bliss. She earned her degree from Lake Michigan College and became a Registered Nurse. Glenda furthered her education by obtaining her BSN from The University of Saint Francis. Sis Burton worked for Lakeland Healthcare for 30 years before retiring. Glenda was a strong woman of God who was always helping and doing for others. She wasn’t content just being a member of Mt. Zion Cathedral of Praise Church of God In Christ; Glenda found her calling serving as a Nurse and was very passionate about furthering all ministries at Mt. Zion, specifically the church’s building fund. Though Glenda worked hard, she loved to get away with Elijah; the two enjoyed traveling to new places, most recently going on a relaxing Hawaiian cruise together. Glenda was also a volunteer for the free clinic in Benton Harbor and Neighbor to Neighbor in Berrien Springs. Glenda was a strong independent woman who loved her Lord, family and community.

Glenda was preceded in death by her father, Halford Harry Rodgers; brother, Marisola Rodgers; brother, Thurman Rodgers; and special cousin, George Thomas. She is survived by her mother, Armentha Zodia (Bell) Rodgers of Berrien Center; husband, Elijah Burton of Berrien Springs; daughter, Shlonda (Leon) Morgan of Killeen, Texas; grandchildren, Leon Marcus Morgan of Akron, Ohio, and Shicoyia Morgan of Killeen, Texas; special cousin Marilyn Thomas-Douglas of Racine, Wisconsin; siblings, Michael Rodgers of Berrien Center, Janet Raylene Rodgers of Berrien Center, Lois (Michael) Renner-Lewis of Kalamazoo, and Barbara Rodgers-McGee of Akron, Ohio; and a host of extended family and close friends.

In keeping with Glenda’s wishes a time of visitation will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Refreshing Fountain Church of God in Christ located at 175 South Euclid Avenue in Benton Harbor from 11 a.m. until noon with Glenda’s homegoing service beginning at noon. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery in Berrien Center. The family requests in lieu of sending flowers or food, a monetary donation be made to the Glenda Burton-Mount Zion Cathedral of Praise Church of God In Christ Building fund.
