Eddies sweep Crimson Chargers 16-1 and 15-5

ELKHART — Visiting Edwardsburg swept a non-league softball doubleheader from Elkhart Memorial in the season opener for the Eddies Monday.

Edwardsburg won the opening game 16-1 in three innings and the nightcap 15-5.

In the first game, the Eddies (2-0) banged out 12 hits, including a pair of doubles by Hannah Shoupe. Michaela Ritschard, Kailee Claire and Kaylee Warner also had doubles.

Savannah Dixon had a triple for Edwardsburg.

Delaney Peters scattered three hits.

In the nightcap, Edwardsburg had an eight-run explosion in the seventh inning.

The Eddies in the seventh scored on a hit-by-pitch, a two-run double by Ali Strycker, a two-run triple by Layne Stinnett, an error and a two-run double by Kaylee Ryker.

Stinnett who had a pair of triples, racked up four RBIs on two hits.

Strycker, Ritschard, Shoupe, Ryker and McKenzie Creek all doubled for the Eddies.

Strycker handled Elkhart Memorial’s lineup with ease, finishing with nine strikeouts. Strycker allowed one earned run on five hits and four walks over six innings.
